Hey everyone,

you're looking at a perl/c/c++ programmer here and I've been given the task to learn Java... (bout time right?)

more specifically I'm learning Java Applets for the whole web interface aspect. I downloaded the Sun Java SDK 1.4 and started learning but when I went to try the examples given I can only get the appletviewer to display the applet. I thought that since it's in an html file that all I have to do is open it up in a java enabled web browser. but it keeps saying class HelloWorld missing. (replace HelloWorld with whatever you like) none of the provided examples are working except for inside the applet viewer.

What am I missing here. any extra steps that I'm not taking?

Thanks,
Martin

This sounds like an applet conversion problem.

I am not sure about 1.4, but Sun provide an HTML converter for 1.2 and 1.3. If you want your applet to run in a browser, you must convert the HTML file using this free download.

Go to Suns java website for more details.

Yes well apparently it comes with the HtmlConverter.exe in the bin directory.

good to know.

Thank you.
