Apple newbie questions...

i have a d-link wireless router right now. I'm getting fed up with MS that I decided to go with apple. my concern/question is:

1. how to go wireless if i buy the g4 laptop? Can I connect it to my existing D-Link wireless router which is controlled by MS windows server?

2. How much is MS Office for Mac roughly?

3. I have HP inkjet printer. Can I print doc from mac?

thanks

You can't bring back a dead thread!

1. Apple calls 802.11b Airport and 802.11g Airport Extreme Apple's version is standards compliant and works with any other 802.11 gear.
2. not sure, for me the goal was to avoid MS products
3. if it is USB, I bet it does. is there a driver for your model on

I am on MacOS 9 so I use Wordperfect 3.51 for really complax documents and Writenow 4.0 for most of my work.

in OSX there is OpenOffice I think

OpenOffice is a major nackdraft... It's the worse shippinbg product avalibel! I use it under Windows 2000 and it's okej... not great, but not that bad...

Templates and other stuff works. It's not very compatible with MS Office documents, still that is the approach. OpenOffice is very slow under Windows. It takes forever to start...

When I got my PowerBook G4 12" shipping with Mac OS 10.8.2 I installed OpenOffice, wishing the Windows version would be bad...

Jesus...!! The Mac version turned the Windowsversion into a beauty!

Then when I upgraded to Panther (Mac OS 10.3) the OpenOffice didn't work anymore.

You cannot run OpenOffice under Mac OS X, you will need to use the X11-something... *very* un-sexy, I'll tell ya!

Apparently there are only two people working on th Mac OS X copy of OpenOffice.

For me the TextEditor (included with Mac OS X) does the work good enough! It can save and read .doc-files. I'm sure it's not that compatible, but for me it's okej.

You may consider taking a look at the office suite shipped by Apple.
