apple talk –share files between a PPC 8500-and Quadra 605 ?



I’m trying to apple talk –network a PPC 8500-and Quadra 605 to back up files
but despite following all directions,my macs don’t show up in the Mac file server in the Chooser?

What can I do to check this set up & that the apple talk cables are working?

Have you got a straight or crossed cable? Are you using a hub/switch.

Use the 8500 with sharing turned on.

What system software are they running?

PPC 8500-(OS 8.6)and Quadra 605 (OS 8.1)

Just apple talk adaptor with cable,telephone wires.

You need to point the Appletalk control panel to either the modem or printer ports depending on which ones you have them the cable plugged into!!!

Then you need to share one of the machines, turn file sharing on under control panels. Then from the desktop select the HDD and go to file pull down menu and select sharing.

Then go to chosser! If you can't fix it in 20 minutes call someone who can.

In most cases, Appletalk 'prefers' the Printer port over the modem port I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.
