I just ordered one, and I'm really looking forward to it. This will be my first Apple product since my ][+ in high school.

Is Apple Care worth buying? I'm leaning towards buying it because this is an all-new model, and it's circuitry density could cause some heat problems.

The AppleCare is very useful for things that are prone to failure and limited life, like displays. Since the mini does not come with these breakables, AppleCare may not be critical. The low price of the mini also makes replacement an affordable option if it fails.

With that said, purchasing an extended warranty on a device that has not been well-tested in the market is a good idea. I am one of several original iMac LCD users that is experiencing common display problems under the clock. AppleCare certainly helps with these all-new products.

IIC, AppleCare can be bought any time in the warranty period. If I were purchasing one, I'd wait, check your and other users' experiences (there will be plenty of press if these start failing) and then consider purchasing prior the expiry of the warranty.

Uhh, too late. I already ordered it.

But thanks to both of you for your input.

chiph, I am going to order a Mini too. Just a couple of questions:

1- it seems it is able to connect only to an USB keyboard: is it right? No way to connect a standard pin keyboard?

2 - As I am going to install Debian Linux on it, I need the mac be ablo to boot "headless", I mean without keyboard/mouse/video. Will the BIOS boot headless or does it require a keyboard/video?

Thanks a lot for replying.

Fabio

No PS/2 ports, so yes, you'll need a USB keyboard. Or a PS/2 to USB converter.

From what I've heard, the mini will boot headless. There are stories of people using them as compute modules in a Beowulf cluster.
