Can anyone help me with my problem. I have set the jobs to run a normal b/u once a month with differential back up twice a week. The back jobs run fine onto new scratch media.

When i run the normal backup the job fits onto two tapes with space on the second tape to fit a differental backup onto the same tape.

I am getting an error message saying media overwrite protected. The settings in the media set are 25 days overwrite protection and 18 days to append.

I cannot figure out why it isnt just appending to the tape but instead saying media overwrite protected! (when it not trying to overwrite!!)

Thanks in advance

Make sure the physical tape isn't locked. Most writeable tapes have a location on them where you can slide a piece of plastic over so they are locked and regardless of what Veritas is saying the status of the tape is, this piece of plastic overrides everything. Hope that helps.

If you go to the job definitions tab, select the job name and right click, go properties there is an overwrite setting on the General tab.

Alternatively Tools, options, Media Overwrite Tab.

Not being one to judge but don't you think it may also be prudent to run your backups a little more frequently, I know if we lost around a months data here we would go bust, not that we aren't already

Cheers
