I've made an append query following the help instructions in Access2000. The table I'm appending from has 40 records. I'm warned before running the query that it will add 200 rows--Do I want to continue? Of course not!

I followed directions carefully--
No autonumbers are involved.

Any ideas what I've done wrong? Thanks for your help now and in all the ages past...

make sure you check the properties of the query

"unique records" should be set to "yes"

Oh, Smitty!
Thank you for your quick and correct response--I must confess it's the first time I knew queries had properties! Now I'll go nuts looking at all my queries and "properterizing" them!

It sounds like you've missed a join somewhere. Are you selecting from two tables, one with 40 rows and the other with 5 rows??
