I have an odd thing happening. Hopefully someone can shed some light for me as to why.

I have a field (PartNumber) that is a combination of numbers and uppper case letters. In the crosstab query that is used for they append query, the PartNumber field appears correctly. Yet, when I run the append query, the PartNumber field appears with some of the letters in lower case rather than upper case.

What would be causing this to happen?
I appreciate any input and would like to thank you for your help.

You might have set the Format property in one of the tables.

No that isnt the reason but I appreciate your reply.

I would check the format and input mask properties of the fields as well as the SQL of the append query.

supind,

Welcome to Tek-Tips.

When you get a chance, can you provide some additional information:

Can you post some examples of your PartNumbers? Are they consistent as to form (e.g., always ABC-123 and never AB-12345) or do you have a mixed bag of PartNumber formats?

Also, your post said [red]some[/red] of the PartNumbers appear with lower case letters. Do you mean within a given PartNumber you may have upper & lower? Or that an entire PartNumber will be either upper or lower case and the problem is that the case is different between records.

Finally, if the upper/lower mix is within a single PartNumber, can you detect a trend? For example, the first letter always/never lower case, etc...

These details will help someone find an answer for you (it ain't necessarily going to be me!).

Good Luck!
Tim

The part numbers take the following format: 43-551SESB,
43-6005A, 43-7044 or some combination thereof with the letters always following the numbers. Only some of the part numbers are affected. For example, I will append 10 records with the 43-6005A part number but a few of them will be with an "A" and the remainder with an "a". I cannot find a pattern for how it is converting it.

Thank you for all of your input.

DHOOKOM - I havent had a chance to check the SQL but will do that as soon as I can. Thank you.
