Hi! I have an Excel Spreadsheet that I will import into one Access Table. From that table I need to automatically append data to several other linked tables. What is the best approach for this? Or can I append each table directly from Excel. I am looking for the simplest approach. thanks in advance!!

0212,

Are you copying different whole rows into different tables, or parts of each row into different tables?

Hi, thanks for you reply. I am copying certain fields from each row, i.e. copying columns to certain fields in certain tables. Users have been tracking information with spreadsheets. I am developing an Access database for the same purpose. I will be needing to take information contained in one spreadsheet and append it to several tables. Thanks for your help!

Hiya,

1) I'd import the whole spreadsheet into a temporary table with an additional autonumber primary key field, and then use that to pull all your data. This will definitely help with problems with data-types etc.

2) Design your new tables. I assume that you want to retain each seperate table row's relationship with it's related row in the other tables? If so, you'll need foreign keys to do this.
If you post the full field list in the Excel file, along with the fields in the new tables: I can point you in the right direction for designing the relational tables.

3) One query could do this, but it may be simpler to extract
each table seperately (each time referring to the autonumber in the full data table).
