Append data to Excel spreadsheet

I have an Access 2003 query that tries to append data from a SQL table to an Excel spreadsheet. I keep getting 'must be an updateable query' error. This used to work.

I have my Excel spreadsheets attached to the Access database - and they writable in Access. But my query won't append to them.

Any help appreciated.

I think that it used to work in previous versions of access, AC2000 for sure, don't know for AC2002.
