I am a novice sendmail user, but we are using an application named BigBrother to monitor a Windows based environment. BigBrother runs from a Linux v8 server. Sendmail is utilized on this Linux server to forward alerts to the Exchange server, which then forwards them to outbound addresses.

The issue is this: when sendmail forwards the email alert the TO: field is blank. Our spam filter will not allow blank TO: fields to enter our network, nor can we configure it to do so. Does anyone know of a way we can append something in the TO: field on outgoing email from Sendmail?

Please ask if you need further information.

Thanks in advance!

I don't think you need sendmail for this try your:

../bbuser/bb/bbwarnsetup.cfg
--and--
../bbuser/bb/bbwarnrules.cfg

files.

I tried turning off Sendmail and no one received alerts. Possibly I have something wrong in the config somewhere?

Right now, in the bbwarnsetup.cfg I have only one smtp address setup, which is an internal exchange account. The alerts go to this address with no issue. I just tried adding another external email address to this in the form:

pagemaster: email@internaldomain.com;email@externaldomain.com

(of course stopping\starting the BB service also). The internal user continued to receive the alerts, but sadly the external one did not.

Can you tell me if there was something wrong with my syntax in the pagemaster statement?

First you need to verify if you can send externally. Try switching the interanl/external domains to see if one goes through and one doesn't on the basis of internal/external or their appearance as first or second in the series.

If the problem is on of whomever appears first goes out and the second doesn't then try:

pagemaster: responseteam@internaldomain.com

then in the /etc/aliases file put:

responseteam: user1, user2@externaldomain.com
