Howdy all,

Win10, MSI Laptop

I've noticed a 3rd new Program File folder, only its in Spanish [blue]Arquivos de Programas.[/blue] The folder was not created by me nor would I install any apps in Spanish (I'm English speaking). The folder is [blue]owned by the system[/blue] and can't be changed. I'd like to take ownership and delete the folder. For the moment I'm just not being too hasty with the deletion (it is a system folder).

Has anyone come across such a folder appearing?
Any suggestions on this issue appreciated in advance.

what is in it? I would delete it if it wasn't created by a software application that you installed, then I would check for malware, or a hijack.

That is the Spanish equivalent of Program Files. Possibilities

o you are running a Spanish version of Windows
o you have installed any software where the Spanish version was selected. This is quite easily done when you scroll the mouse wheel when the item in focus is a combo box or list box.
o installed software from a Spanish supplier?

Check in that directory - see what is in it. If it is a legal install, check that you haven't got the Spanish version. You may have to uninstall it and reinstall the English version, that is, unless you want the Spanish version.

That's just it, have no Idea. The system won't allow opening.

I thought I said that in my post origination.

Anyway, sometime today I'll see if I can take ownership of the folder, and go from there. Will post the results.

To All ...

Although [blue]I could take ownership[/blue], I found I still couldn't change permissions (everything that could change permissions was grayed out), nor could I delete the folder. So I took a trip to Safe Mode and deleted the folder there.

Might I add, in win10, Microsoft has made getting to Safe Mode an [blue]overkill[/blue] affair. At any rate, problem solved (sure would like to know how that folder got there. ...

%programfiles% in different languages points to different directory names. If the admin locale is Spanish, it will use the Spanish variant.

xwb ...

The laptop is an [blue]English[/blue] OEM by MSI and is 4 years old. The file appeared about a week ago.
