My copy of VFP9 has started crashing any time I save with a typo. I'm using Windows 7 64 bit.

For instance myear=str(year(date(*),4) would cause VFP to crash and drop fully out of the program on a save.

The problem signature says APPCRASH Application Name VFP9.

In googling around this APPCRASH seem unusual but affects lots of stuff. Seen it called a bad install problem and a registry problem.

I had my user directory go missing just before this started and found it had changed to Hidden.

This is a real mystery so any help would be appreciated.

I think you probably have a virus of some kind.

The only time I've seen stuff like that was when I got one, and ended up having to go back to
an earlier image of my HDD to recover.

I hope I'm wrong.

Your foxuser.dbf or foxcode.dbf could have an error.

You can fix foxuser.dbf by deleting it, Sys(2005) shows you where to find foxuser.dbf, typically it's the VFP9 install directory HOME().

You can fix foxcode.dbf via Tools->Intellisense Manager->Advanced->Button "Clean Up"->Button "Restore Foxcode".

Bye, Olaf.

Appears to have involved Foxcode. I went in and tried the advanced clean up and that fixed it for a few minutes. Then exited the program and went back in and problem was back.

Read somewhere that having VFP in the Programs(86) directory in the Windows 7 environment could cause problems so uninstalled and reinstalled to a root directory I just called VFP9. Had to kill all the foxuser files, too. Took 2 tries to get a good install and then still had to repoint the genmenu.app.

Seem to have it sticking now. At least was able to get in and exit several times. Hope this fix lasts.

Notice nobody is saying I had that problem, too.

I had the problem with foxcode.dbf, too.

Program Files is read/execte only. You can also administratively override that in the security settings of the HOME() dir. UAC is a problem here, but Windows redirects any writes to a subdir of your profile. This kind of error is not only UAC or Win7 fault, it's really just a fault of the table corruption. I also ha foxcode broken twice. But this could also happen on XP.

It's a good move anyway, to reinstall. Maybe there was something else faulty causing foxcode to break again.

Bye, Olaf.
