We are having a problem since rolling out two Windows XP Pro computers. It's minor but I would still like to know if anyone else has encountered this.

When launching one app from the desktop (double-clicking the icon), the app logon window opens up, but focus is not on the window. So when the user starts keying a user id and password nothing happens. They have to click somewhere in the window to make it be the active window before they can type in their user id and password.

The application is 3rd party. This same application opens up with focus on the login screen on computers that run Windows 98 and Windows 2000.

Anybody have any suggestions???

Thanks!

I will warn you that there are several registry keys involved, and that the settings are per user and not for the local machine.

The easiest way to make these changes is to use the Microsoft Tweakui for XP utility, or X-teq's X-setup. Because it is possible to script registry changes, I will provide the links for the registry entries involved.

Essentialy you need to prevent another application from stealing the focus; and you need to make adjustments to your mouse hover sensitivity to make it more "X-mouse" like.

bcastner - thanks so much for your information. That was exactly what I needed. I only changed the registry key pertaining to "focus" - ForeGroundLockTimeout nows equals 0 and it solved the problem.

Thanks again!
