App aliasing question

Looking to see what the common practice is.
I just added gtar to one of my systems to enable large file taring. What do you do with apps such as this? Do you alias the tar command with gtar or just remember that gtar is out there? Same for other apps like this that have a simuliar name as a GNU app. Do you alias the new app as old app name........?

it depends from who is using these app.

If is a server, and just admins launch these, I prefere don't mask anything and to know well what I am using.

Also for users, I prefere don't mask commands.
If you want make trasparent the commands to them,
use a script, say MYTAR, and suggest users to use it,
and put inside what you prefere.
