We have a website and we want to add "We don't recognise your computer" (Like your bank website probably has).
Then have our system call a user and read them a code.
Does our IP office 500 v2 have an API that would enable us to do this?
The system can do through TAPI easily. The mechanism that takes that mouse click and asks for the number then generates the code and initiates the call etc would all be 3rd party and nothing to do with the telephone system, do you have something that will do that? If so what CTI methods do they support? That's going to be your stumbling block
The biggest issue is that if you wanna call and read something you'll need to use TAPI WAV and that wasn't the most reliable part of IP Office last time I used it. (although that wasn't yesterday to be honest).
Most people have cell phones so using SMS should be a more effective and simpler solution, but the above is possible.
Twilio or Plivo would be the best candidates for rolling your own two factor authentication. You could probably have this set up in an hour or so and it is very cheap. Otherwise use a third party 2fa provider (twilio has one called authy).
I was already going to use Twilio for the SMS side of this,
after reading how easy doing phone through them would be, I'll probably end up using them for both.
