Hi all,

My co-worker unplugged our Smart-UPS SU1400RM2U yesterday, when it worked fine. We moved it to the new site. This afternoon, I plugged it in and it won't power up at all.

Holding the power switch does nothing. The breaker in the back is okay. The power supplied to the unit is good with no wiring faults. There is no load plugged in.

Any advice?

Since you moved the UPS, have you popped the front to see if the battery cable(s) might have come off?

Also, did he unplug the UPS while it was still powered on?

The batteries are still properly connected. I checked them and they're completely discharged, and properly connected.

I asked him how he unplugged it and he said, "I turned everything off that was plugged into it, then unplugged it. I didn't turn it off. I didn't know I had to."

I'm kinda thinking the UPS didn't like that... I've never have done it myself and you would think that the UPS would have just beeped like it lost AC from the outlet, but there could have been some type of feedback and since it was no longer grounded, "popped" something inside.

Again, I'm only taking an educated guess and only APC could give you a definitive answer.

With it's age, I would chalk this up to a learning experience for your tech and purchase a new UPS. You can do a trade-UPS with APC and/or your vendor of choice with your old one to save you a few $$.

Hope I could help.
