Hello,
I have been researching the difference between a Smart-UPS and a Back-UPS PRO. I know that the "Smart" has battery meters on the front of the ups and auto diagnostic testing that the "Pro" doesn't. But is this the main difference and is it worth an extra $100-$150?? They both seem to come with the PowerChute software and can shut down the server when power runs low.

Does anyone know of any reason one would be better than the other??

Thanks, Mike

The main difference is the output voltage waveform when in back-up mode. While Back-UPS UPSs have a stepped wave, the Smart UPSs have sine wave output.
Is it worth the price difference? It depends on your needs and the importance of the supported system for your organization. If the UPS will power a user workstation, Back-UPS will do it fine. If you want to power a server, maybe the slight difference in quality and reliability (synchronized sine wave output, and a better construction) is worth the peace of mind.

Regards,
