Hi,

Just in the middle of doing my first install of a CX controller.
The customer has just stated that they require Homeworkers using 5340 IP Phones ,i take it this is just as simple as them getting a router at home and getting an open connection back to the office and making sure everything can talk together.

Do i need anything else on the Mitel, someone said something about an APC?

Any help appriciated.

Sounds like you need Teleworker.

What you propose can also work, but is super dangerous from a security standpoint because it requires making a nailed-up V-LAN extension out over the internet. There are some really good routers for doing this very thing, such as the Cisco 831 and 851, but your security folks will have kittens (and they should).

And yes, you can do Teleworker on the APC. The software is reasonably inexpensive though you will need to purchase individual teleworker licenses for all who wish to work from home.

IPSEC tunnel with properly configured ACL will work for you. You need to open control port to your CX.

6800,6801,6802 TCP

Then to all networks where you have phones

9000,9002 UDP
50000 to 50255 UDP

BTW, which version of system software do you have?
Pre rel6 and down have a little bit different ports layout.

and put those phones to a separate compression zone with intra-zone compression set on.

The IPSEC tunnel is what we've been doing, but not with the ntwk security dept's blessing, let me assure you. They see it as a lan extension. Of course then when it came time to do TW they also balked at the large number of ports needing to be open.
