This is a clean install. Eedhat7.1, Apache-1.3.24, mod-perl, mod-ssl, open-ssl, mm, php4.2.1. When completing the install I got the "you have successfully built and install apache...." Then when I enter the "apachectle start" command it replies "httpd started" - but it doesn't start. (there's no process in ps aux,) and the error log reads "http.pid overwritten -- Unclean shutdown of previous Apache run? Apache.pm failed to load"

So... it's a new install, no previous apache runs, and no apache processes show up when running ps aux. I've also tried starting httpd directly - same error message in the log.

Any clues?

Ok, I solved this one. The problem was in noted in the error message "Apache.pm failed to load" It was saying that the "mod perl" wasn't loading. I went back and rebuilt the mod perl then recompiled apache.

All is well.
