I have apche running with FP2000 server extensions. If I connect to it, I enter a password and can view the site. But if I then try to edit it and save..I get an error message about service.lck
Can anyone tell why? and how to configure it to let me change the webs?

I've only administered FP on the NT side but I suspect they are similar. That error would indicate that you need either read or write permissions to that file. That is one of the administrative files and would be located in one of the "_vti..." directories. I would check the documentation and find out what the permissions need to be for that file. They had a list at one time which indicated what files needed read, write, execute, etc.. so hopefully they still provide it. I would try adding read, then write permissions to the file but just be careful as giving too many permissions can open up security holes. I've been told by other linux admins that the fp extensions had security problems at one point so just be careful with them.

Thanks...I tried it. It didn't work...I deleted service.lck and then re-created it. Put chmod 777 service.lck and restarted apache. Used fp2K to connect and got the same error. I tried a google search and found some suggestions about deleting the file? Doesn't work. Also one posting about something else...will this work? And what is ISUR_etcetcetc???? ( AS BELOW)

Don't ask M$ how to fix it they are clueless. However,
it's very simple to fix. Give the ISUR_machine name FULL CONTROL in the
_vti_pvt directory (this directory control authentication). Access the site
in a browser. THEN change back the permissions for IUSR_machine name to
READ.

But i have a ? for u, i am running RH 7.3 , apache , all updates, i dowloaded the tar file for the 2002 FP ext, untared it, but i am having trouble figuring out the rest on the install.

it says ot run the fp_install.sh but when i run it in Gnome it doesnt run, and by command line , i try run the filename or run filename but i get command not found... any idea,

Does the fp_install.sh script have the execute permission assigned to it? How are you running the script? You need to specify the path to the file if its not in your $PATH.

I had the same problem when I first installed the fp2k extentions. After restoring the origional apache configuration, I created a new user, and reinstalled the extention scripts.

the extentions require apache to run with a user with uid & gid >15 for linux. Creating the new user and telling the fp install script to use that new user allowed the proper access.

Hope this helps!
