apache with fp2k server exts

Can anyone help. I have installed frontpage server exts on apache webserver and they work BUT there is a problem with authorization. Basically it doesn't ask for any, which means any old bod can change anything.
Does anyone know why?

In your httpd.conf file, make sure that all your Frontpage directories have the Option AllowOverride. The server extensions use .htaccess files to handle authentication.
