I had Apache installed on my PC, to run PHP pages with mySQL. Everything was fine. I recently had to re-install the operating system (Windows XP Professional, SP2), and when I reinstalled Apache and started it Apache now takes 100% of my CPU resources. It never did that before. I haven't installed mySQL or PHP yet. When I stop the Apache service everything is fine, but when I start it up again the CPU usage soars back to 100%. Thanks for any help.

Can you read any of the logs? It sounds like you may have runaway child processes. Is it creating an ungodly amount of pid files? Basically we gotta find out what it's doing before we can find out why it's doing it. Is there any chance you downloaded the wrong binary? What happens if you kill the service and run it in a window? Have you ever considered linux? ;-)

Haven't checked any of that - I'm pretty ignorant to the mechinations of Apache. It's an install disk from a Sam's book on Apache2, MySQL, and PHP.

I'll do some digging and get back to you. Thanks.

If it was in a book then chances are you have a fairly old version of the software. If you would like to look into a current version of WAMP, check out these sites:

WAMP5 is also another very popular WAMP but I don't know the addy off the top of my head but you can google for it I'm sure. This doesn't mean you have to throw away your book. ;-)
