Has anyone out there been able to sucessfully have Apache communicate with an Active Directory? We've found a few leads for an IIS solution but we are wanting to integrate the permissions on our intranet, running with Apache, using Active Directory. We prefer writting in PHP.

What we are trying to do is this:

We are building from scratch an Intranet. Part of our wish list includes the following:

- In the header it says "Hello $name".
- We want to have some customized areas like "Stock Quotes". Be able (through cookies) to allow people to add/remove stock quotes for their own use.
- Also part of the customized areas is the ability to find out what "department" you are in. So for instance I am a member of "Operations" and "Intranet Services". Intranet Services is under our Operations area. When I go to our Intranet I "start" at my Intranet Services page.

We'll start with these three issues. We are programming this in PHP.

This may all be available through your LDAP directory. You can use the apache mod_auth_ldap to authenticate and then find some other PHP modules to pull the user info via LDAP.
