I am having trouble with Apache. After installing Apache on my Windows 95 system, I tried to start Apache and it wouldn't work. The DOS window opens for half a second and closes. I looked at the error log and it says "failed to get a socket for port 80." What should I do?

Is it possible that you have something else running on Port 80? Do you have a way to get to the internet on that machine, if so , what type of connection is it? I think either the port is being used or disabled.

Hope this helps.

I think your problem is Windows 95. For Apache to work on any Windows platform it needs a WinSock 2.0 installed. I am pretty sure this was included in Windows 98 and on. However, you can go to the Apache site and it will explain this to you. It also has a link to the Microsoft page where you can download this for install.
