I'm running Redhat7.1 with apache. When I start apache it runs fine, and through the day I check it peridically and it's ok. Then after several hours in the evening, I check from the house and it's shut down. When I check the monitor it still shows to be running, but no pages are served. Any ideas

what do you mean by shut down, has the apache process died? if so, your monitor has issues. if not, is the server behind a firewall that you can't see from home???

Had the same thing happen to me. (rh 7.1 seawolf)

Right now I'm only able to connect to my site by using my ip address in browser but I'm still working on my dns.
Anyway I left the server running and about five hours later checked the ip from work and got no response.
When I got home everthing seemed to be running. Rebooted pc and back in business. Don't no whats up with that I've got other things to resolve first, like being able to serve up my domain by name. Quite interesting though..

Figured it out.. Lose of internet connection at isp end.

If you disconnect you nic cable for a split second and plug it back in same result.

Optimised, Are you saying that any split second disconnect from the isp will keep stop apache from serving web pages? If so, I guess that makes sense since we're testing this box on a dynamic IP, I would guess there would be a split second lapse between changes in IP addresses.
