Apache Service

Im running Apache 2.0.30, or whatever it is (Im on W2K), anyways -- whenever I try and stop the the aparche service, the command prompt comes up and tells me that Apache is stopping (as per usual), but then it doesnt go away. It still just says "The Apache2 service is stopping." - and that's it. I can try and close the window, but then Apache doesnt work at all.

Is this Apache2 a bad idea? should I go back to 1.3.x?
