Apache + PHP on Windows 2003 with MSSQL

Hello,

I have apache 2.2, with php 5.2.5 running on windows 2003. I need to connect to an Microsoft SQL server database running on a different machine. We have the mssql extension enabled, and even install the MS Sql Tools. But things still do not appear to be working. Does anyone have any suggestions?

We always get t he error back that it cannot connect to the db server. However, external connections are permitted on the server.
