Apache Error Message - What does it mean?

I went to test apache before restarting and ran 'apachectl configtest' and recieved this error:

Ouch! ap_mm_create(1048576, "/var/run/httpd.mm.30311&quot failed Error: MM: mm:core: failed to acquire semaphore (No space left on device): OS: Invalid argument

I'm scared to restart just incase the server doesn't start up afterward.

Has anyone seen this before and/or know what's going on?

A little more information would be helpful. What version of apache are you running and what platform are you running it on? ie window,unix and if unix is x86 or sparc.

It is Apache 1.3.22 running on RedHat 7.1 linux server

I have done some searching on the net and have found people that are having similar issues. None have posted a fix for this issue they report running the server and when the error happens they restart the server. All appear to be running redhat 7.1 to 7.3 . I am not familiar with redhat so I don't know if 7.3 is their newest version. You might try upgrading to the newest version of apache 1.3 series which is 1.3.26 that also contains a serious bug fix ( I am not sure if they made a patch for 1.3.22, go to

to check) or upgrade or change your os to a newer or different version. I don't know if this is a production box, so upgrading os may not be an option. Sorry I could not be of more help.
