Apache connects only with ssl externally

I have a small home network consisting of a couple Sun boxes, a couple WinXP boxes, and a RedHat 9 box. I'm using Smoothwall 2.0(beta4) as my gateway. When I try to connect to my Apache server (on the RedHat box) fram an external IP (i.e. work) I can only connect via SSL (https). I can connect normally (i.e. port 80) from inside the network, and everything is fine. I use Cox Communications as my ISP (cable internet). And I have heard that they block port 80 at the modem level. I didn't think that cable modems were that "smart" but I wouldn't put it past Cox's network configuration to block that port. Is this common? Is there any way around it? Nothing else seems to want to connect via normal http (i.e. webmin - different port, but still http not https). A friend told me that this could be a single line in my httpd.conf. So my question is, I guess, is it me or Cox? If you need any files (i.e. httpd.conf) I will be glad to provide them.

Cox Communications has announced they will be blocking ports 25 and 80 on inbound cable modem connections beginning July 14, 2003. They claim this is to stem the spread of CodeRed and Nimbda through email. Here is the document:

It could be that your local Cox office has already started the blocking. I've always assumed that the July 14^th date was when the blocking would be in effect everythere on their network.

Thanks. But even if I run it on a different port (i.e. 8080), I still can't connect.
