I'm a new to apache, I loaded and installed the server and started it on bootup and made sure it was running. I can view the page from my local machine, using either the loopback or the ip picked up from dhcp. However, I cannot view it from an external Ip.. I've checked the httpd.conf file and the commonhttpd.conf and made a change to Allow from all, but i still have the problem.. What am i missing?? any help would be great

On what IP address is the server running? ______________________________________________________________________

the server is running within a 192.168.x.x behind a firewall. I'm trying to reach it from machines also behind this firewall with the same subnet. Does the default apache config. deny access to machines? Don't know if there is anything I need to change..

Other machine should be able to reach you server by typing your host name (machine name). Apache listens for all addresses on port 80 by default. So any http request to your machine should bring up apache. The router or firewall could also be blocking this port. If so, you need to forward all port 80(http) requests to your machines ip.

Can other machines ping the web server? Can any machines connect to any other services you may be running (ie, NFS, Samba,...). I want to rule a connectivity issue first.

What error messages are the computers getting when trying to connect? Is it an Apache error or does it time out?

Post your httpd.conf file if the above doesn't help any.
