Hi, I'm a newbie and I was wondering can you execute a binary from cgi-bin without using a script or just by typing it in after ~/cgi-bin, also if you set your webserver to port 8089 lets say is there a way to be able to access it without specifying that port in a browser, like say with some setting or external script.

Not sure about the first question about cgi-bin but for the second one about the ports, you could use a port redirect service. Many of the services such as no-ip or dydns offer such things.

Hope this Helps
Brett

If you are running apache on a Win32, yes you can use .exe files as long they were compiled from cgi script or the program won't know what to do with its output. As for the ports question, if you use a port other than 80 for http requests, you will need a dns pointer service as was mentioned above.
