AP500 Workstation Disc Change Problems

I cannot replace the CD drive on my Compaw Ap500 as there is no way to remove it as the front is to thin, and behind the disc is the HD cage that even when removed embosses upon it. Wondered if anyone else had changed a drive and noes how to do it.
