AP3700 multiple power feeds? 2

Hi everyone,

Are the AP3700 cabinets capable of having two power inputs, so you can have redundant power from two power rails?

There are some upgrades going on to the power in of our hospitals which will cause outages and we have two separate feeds in the cabinet but the AP37000 only have a single input...

The AP3700's have two LUNA2 power supplies.

I have often wondered this. I paid for redundant power, and have multiple power supplies, but only one power source per cabinet. Of course I have UPS on all my cabinets so I would be able to move the power source to another circuit without disrupting something, but what happens if the UPS fails?

That's what happened to a (non-Siemens) customer, the UPS failed. We were able to get them to move the PBX power cord directly to an AC receptacle. That at least got the phone system itself going. When I got there I had to move the paging amp, a Viking timeclock/tone generator, and MOH.

I've seen complete UPS failures more than once - or a customer will call because it's beeping (but at least still providing direct AC power). Had one failure where the customer then said 'it's been beeping for a few days'. Kind of like a report of beeping from a Plantronics headset user - I asked them if they ever changed the batteries. The reply was 'what batteries?'

We do have a large UPSs connected to the two different feeds in the server room backed up by generator (I think they are multiphase as well). However, as part of the electrical upgrade they need to take the electricity down to the two feeds for 8 hours... (They will be doing the two feeds on separate occasions).

Trying to get prices from Unify power additional PSU's for the Ecoservers as they only came with one. Failing that we can power down the standby Ecoserver and move that to the other feed and bring back up - any tips?

Then when the electrical work occurs, move the power for the cabinets to the other feed....

Your're welcome thepfy. Unfortunately it's been a long time since I was with Siemens - so I'm not useful going forward. Don would be the one who may be able to help you. It'a also kind of a mystery to me if/where Unify has local offices and support personnel if needed liked Siemens used to when I was with them years ago.

I am running my 4000 duplex, and that is what I do when I need to do any maintenance or when I do a system upgrade - the system will upgrade the standby side first, then flip over to it and upgrade the other side (which is now the standby side). So your suggestion to down the standby and switch power is logical because it will be ready to go. If your two servers are running in a duplex mode, when you drop the primary you probably won't lose any calls but ones that are currently ringing or in the process of dialing. Then when your primary comes back up and is good you can switch back to finish.

Of course do that at a low traffic time just in case.

Hi all,

yes, the AP 3700 has two power sources, but this is mainly undocumented. You can plug the AC and DC source concurrently. If one source will fail the other should provide the power. We use that on our H4K.

Hello,

We have shutdown, then moved the standby Ecoserver to the other power feed and brought it back up successfully.

Is there a way to force the Standby to become the Active server? Currently, the Active is running on the feed which will be turned off during the next power outage.
I could just rely on the Standby taking over when the power drops on the Standby but would prefer more control.

As for the AP3700s as we are unlikely to get any addtional power connectors in time, the plan is to pull the power from each cab in turn and preplug into the other feed and wait for the cards to reload...
If anyone has better suggestions then I'm all ears.

In a duplex setup V7/V8 quickest way to switch active to standby
Press the power button for a moment
Look at the display - it will say - press again to power off.
So press again and the Active will power off but before it does it will make the standby processor active.

The other method is to log on to the portal and go into maintenance there and shutdown either server.

Of course the unapproved method in a duplex system is to just disconnect the ethernet cable form the primary (I have had IT folks do that on occasion, and then have little halos on their heads and make believe nothing happened)... P
