AP Check migration to Laser Printer 1

Has anyone out there taken their AP Check Run from the Line Printer to the Laser Printer? Did you just redirect your output to the Laser Printer and fudge the RDL or did you output your ASCII to a file and then run the file through a 3rd party check print app?<br>

We are very interested in moving our check runs to the laser printer ASAP....<br>

To support laser printers in general, we ended up writing Unix slow filters. MIMS prints to a printer like any other printer. The slow filter receives the print data as STDIN and can manipulate it as it needs (TIFF conversion, PS conversion, or just adding HPGL printer commands).<br>

If you are on Unix, this is a great way to handle 'custom' laser printing without having to Hack your application code.<br>

We use a system supplied by Bottonline Technologies, 603-436-0700 (NH) or 415-782-3883 (CA). Their system provides login security at the PC level, using special toner the make the check machine readable and security paper. They map the data in the regular MIMS check output file into the correct positions on the check form. It is a little clunky as the program is PC based and the A, B, and C reports are handled differently. The actual check report is transfered to a PC with the check printer attached. It is not a network printer for security reasons. The overflow report for invoice advice that does not fit on the check stub is sent to a second printer direct from MIMS and manually matched with the check.<br>

It took a while to get set up, but seems to be working well now.<br>

Hi,
we have been printing cheques on HP Laser printers from MIMS 3.10 to MIMS 4.1 on pre-printed A4 Remittance/Cheque Forms, by customising the standard RDL. One RDL version is direct from MIMS as normal RDL character-resolution output. We use a second RDL version to issue graphic-resolution output including graphic signatures;this version feeds RDL output into a 3rd party product JetForms. Using 3rd party products usually involves extensive customisation &amp; programming. We will be looking at implementing other alternative solutions.

Hi Steve:

Newmont Mining in Nevada uses a third party system called ACOM in conjunction with MIMS. A customized mims report, ngb283 creates a flat file (NGT283). A script moves this file from the mims work directory to the unix directory and network drive. AP will then print the checks.

We actually outsource our cheque production to one of our banks, but one solution that we looked at was using a product call createprint(

We use this product for all other forms type printing (AR invoices PO's etc). This solution requires a special memory chip to be placed in a network printer. The form is designed and loaded into the installed memory chip. The print jobs are sent to the printer with a special header mask embedded in the file. The printer then merges the data with the loaded form and prints it out on normal plain paper. They have a cheque printing module that includes some security functionality that allows you to design your own cheque layout on special blank cheque paper. You will have to contact them for the detail.
