Hey everybody.

I personally hate AOL with a passion, but my boss seems to love it, and we currently have it on about 4 machines at work.
I then thought, why buy yet ANOTHER modem, when I could set Win2K as a router, and share the ISDN (using both lines to have 128K!) One prob. AOL don't support it! As you need their software to logon (email and surfing).
I also find out that after about 10 mins of inactivity, its auto matically logs your off.

I need to get some sort of message across to my boss that having Internet via the network compared to AOL , would be a much better idea.
He likes the simplicity, the "one click" idea. He doesn't see the technical probs it has!

its not just me is it. You can't use on network, must use their software, one user at a time can be online... so it goes on! Great for home users. Bad for businesses!

I need to give him the pros of networked internet, compared to AOL.

I need to move over!!!!!! ;-)

AOL is bad. Many people don't even realize that what they are surfing often isn't the internet at all. It is AOL large unreliable network. I have always found it difficult to surf the true internet with AOL. That's why I haven't used it in 5 years. I would never use AOL for business. So many services are blocked. Plus the browser causes problems with vpn clients and citrix plugins. I only suggestion that I have is to check into AOL for different business service. They might offer ISDN. Then they give you standard connect info, but still allow use of their browser. Price probally wouldn't be competive. Your boss should do what you suggest. He obviously isn't technical enough to make IT decisions.

Hi Steve,

You could point out that using Windows Internet Sharing more than one person could log onto the internet at once. Point out that the internet and email is still just a click away just a different icon. Actually you can browse the internet using the full version of outlook (not outlook express). It may be handy to point out that using the AOL IM you can still IM aol members just like using the buddy list. Also, try having him use outlook or outlook express just once and I think he'll agree that it is way better. My company has a simple program that can convert AOL's contacts into a format that can be imported into Outlook, Outlook Express or almost any other contact manager. I think the program is VERY CHEAP if not free. Email me if you are interested. FoxPacific@email.com

Aloha,

James
