AOL/Tiscali freezes as password exchanged

Recently installed GE FX 5600 card, modem and RAM. Now, both AOL and Tiscali connect fine up to point when password exchange - then system freezes and needs soft reboot to clear. Pattern repeats every time, locking in exactly the same position. Reverted to original card config but same result.

Going round and round with this one now hence any help would be appreciated.
