Hello,
Quick and dirty, I've got 5 pc's running p2p network under
win98. we've just used dialup until last week, but the
boss man wants aol, so we went aol broadband...against my
suggestions... anyway.
dsl modem goes to the linksys router, then out to
the 'puters. They all can connect thru the router, all at
the same time under different screen names. so all that
stuff works.
Here's the difference. Under dialup connections, other
applications can see and use the connection...virus scan
can update...etc. With the aol application minimized, I
can use other methods to connect, ie6 etc.
While trying to set up a vpn, I realized that no other
application but aol can access my connection. this
problem seems to be on all 5 machines, so it leads me to
believe that it's a router setting that I've missed. AOL seems to have everything set exactly backwards from the way everyone else sets up their equipment...not to mention the modem drops the connection religiously 2-3 times a day and has to be reset. My sbc connection isn't perfect, but at least if the little dialer tray icon crashes, it doesn't take out windows with it.
Burnt up way too much overhead this week trying to get a
little help from tech support. aol support gave up
twice. on two different problems. referred me to linksys
and then to microsoft. hehehe. reminds me of the good
old days.
any suggestions?
Thanks!
