Hi

I have just set up a home network for someone but they use AOL as their ISP, when we try to connect to the internet through the AOL ADSL connection it will not allow it on the secondary machine but will allow the main machine to connect, even when the main machine does not have AOL running we cannot conect through the secondary machine.

When we spoke with AOL help desk they say AOL does not support networking.

The network is only 2 machines one on XP (the AOL machine, main) and one on 98se (secondary), the PC's are connected with crossover Cat 5 cable.

Both machine can see each other on the network and printer and file sharing is all ok.

Any ideas how I can get both the machines logged on.

Many Thanks

Thanks for the pointer.

But they are using AOL 8, even the AOL 5.0/6.0 explainatioon does not work as the client computer cannot connect as I stated even when the host is not using AOL.

I have had no end of problem with people on AOL, their software and help lines are not the easiest to work with.

ICS cannot share an AOL connection (AOL 7 & 8).

Analog-x is a proxy server which has been recommended on Tek-Tips as an alternative connection sharing software for AOL users. (
Information on networking AOL is available from the horses mouth at AOL Keyword "Home Network"...something most AOL tech support don't seem to realise!

<marc> i wonder what will happen if i press this...[pc][ul][li]please give feedback on what works / what doesn't[/li][li]need some help? how to get a better answer: faq581-3339[/li][/ul]
