AOL Email Pesudonymn

Can anyone tell me how to cahnge the outgoing email address from the AOL supplied one to an email address that I want to specify.

All emails will come back to the AOL account via the webspace provider forwarding service, but I don't want people to see their replies to messages from an AOL user.

The AOL version is 8

MrMode - you can't. Having worked for AOL, I've discussed this before - it is not possible.

If you were to send an email from AOL's smtp server, but identified it as from "mrmode@yourdomain.example.com" you are effectivly spoofing your email address - this would cause a number of servers to bounce your email.

yourdomain.example.com maps to a specified IP address, the IP address should reverse map (rev-dns) to yourdomain.example.com. a number of mail servers do a reverse dns check using the mail sender's IP address to identify spam.

Most web hosts will provide a secure smtp server to allow you to send correctly identified email. AOL does not block access to this. It would be better if your host provided a pop3 mailbox, instead of forwarding email to an AOL account. This is industry best practice, as it allows you to retain full control over your email, instead of relying on a third party to courier your email.

Your webhost will be able to give you the server names - once you have these, you can configure outlook / outlook express to send and receive using your webhost mail server.
