I guess i need to start at the beginning with this problem. First, i'd sign on to screen name A, once done i'd sign on to screen name B or C or D or E or F and on every name the address and buddy list from A would follow me to all other screen names. Aol techs told me to purge my aol adapter, art work, all files that end it .aby & .abi to solve the problem. So i did. Then when i went back online the address book to A was gone for good. I get a blank address book instead. Empty, blank i know no other way to say this. It comes up, but it is BLANK. I used another computer, but it does not show up there either. I go to and it says "Unable to load address book at this time". So i put a call into aol tech's of course, but they simply tell me to delete the same stuf out again. Which still does not work. So a week ago they put in a request to fix it on their end. And a few days ago they put in another. And still i have NO address book, which of course was the only one i truly needed! As it had all our business contacts in it. Ones i simply did not list anywhere else but in that address book. To top it off, they finally told me to uninstall aol 8.0 and get a cd and reinstall it fresh. I did, but it didn't fix anything. And to really top the entire thing off, now on that screen name A only, it says remote host shut down every five minutes while kicking me offline. So they said it was somehow my memory wsnm't enough, so i fixed that. But that didn't help. Then said it was my access number and to try a different one, i did and of course it didn't fix anything. And i tried to explain numerous times that out of all my screen names it only did it to one of them and not the others. Even with memory at only 65%, even with the same access number. But they said it didn't matter.
So now i still have no address book and a remote host on that screen name only keeps kicking me offline. What is a person to do? I am beginning to hate aol 8.0. Any suggestioins that might truly help this situation? Does anyone know if Aol can get into the address book and copy it and email it to me at least? I asked but was told no. Now i put some more into my buddy list. I had a partial list from long ago, and i don't want to lose that either.
Ps. my auto complete doesn't even work for that screen name only. And i did uninstall that and reinstall fresh, but nothing still works!

So dump AOL and save money in the process.

Well gee, how very very insightful of you. I could have used a slap in the face as easily as i used your advice. I didn't know that this would be the type of advice i'd receive on this site. Will let people know what to truly expect if one has a REAL problem and not some stupid crap like not being able to find their settings area even though it is in big letters. Thanks once again, as sarcastically as you can make it sound in your stupid head.

BriannaJo - the AOL addressbook is not stored locally, it is stored on AOL's servers.
It hasn't been stored locally since a few versions back (AOL v5, I think)

Speak to someone in AOL who knows an account reset from their arse end and you may have some luck.

To be honest though, I think your address book is gone for good.

If your address book won't load when you're using the website ( then it is CATEGORICALLY not your problem, it is AOLs.

I agree with InterNETech - find yourself another isp! ;)

Good luck.

<marc> i wonder what will happen if i press this...[pc][ul][li]please give feedback on what works / what doesn't[/li][li]need some help? how to get a better answer: faq581-3339[/li][/ul]
