I have saved on CD all my AOL 4.0 email files. On WIN XP I could open the aol.exe file and access all my emails saved on the disk. Now Windows 7 won't allow me to open the aol.exe file. How do I open these emails now? Is there a program out there that I can run that would recognize the format?

What's the format of the AOL email files?

Have fun.

What version of AOL are you trying to run on Windows 7?

I am not sure of the file format since the file is like this:

Igaw.a29

It sort of broke up my screen name into it's own extention.

I was trying to run AOL 4.0 since it ran on my WIN XP no problems. Now I am getting an error since it cannot open AOL 4.0.

I tried downloading the new AOL and importing in, however it doesn't import my e-mail files. The only way I have found to be able to read my emails is to open in wordpad or notepad.

If you can open them in Notepad then you are set.

Have fun.

The only problem with notepad is that the emails are all garbled up. Its a poor man's way to view them. I wasn't sure if there was a quick conversion fix or anything. But like you said at least I can read them, (somewhat at least)

Download your uninstaller trial and make sure you have completely uninstalled the previous version of AOL. Also run a CCCleaner reg scan to remove any unused reg files.

Then go to AOL and download the newest version and try to load them
