Hi

I have some backups running on an RAWS agent to a Windows Server 2008. I am NOT using AOFO, I'm just backing up a handful of non-open files which works except for "exception" that the VSS fails... VSS is installed on the server but I just want Backup Exec to back the files up...nothing clever.

I found this that mentions 2008 but everything I find says to turn off the VSS option in the AOFO...but I'm not using it!

Cheers

From the link you posted:
"Only VSS can be used when backing up Windows 2008 Servers"

yeh but the whole line is:

Note: Only VSS can be used when backing up Windows 2008 Servers, so please do not attempt to either push out or perform a silent installation (local command line install) of the AOFO Option on these machines.

Soooo how do you do a VSS copy without the AOFO?

From this it kinda says that it should just work... so the question then is why does it fail telling me it could do VSS?

Cheers

Fixed it:

BE12 includes AOFO license as standard, install this...turn it on and make it use VSS (do not push out the Symantec version to your 2008 server).

The key part...Don't use shares, select the cluster volume drive letter itself.

Sounds obvious but I hope it helps someone!
