Within the next couple weeks I will be migrating from Commvault 6.1 to Simpana 7.0. I have sucessfuly replaced the hardware I had mentioned in an earlier post with new hardware, DR'ed my envirnment to the new hardware and will be upgrading to Simpana to facilitate some new 2008 servers that will be coming online. I was just wondering if anyone has had any issues with the upgrade from 6.1-7.0 process or if there are any things I should watch out for. I have upgraded the old hardware that I pulled as a test and everything seemed to go well in a closed environment. Just want to cover all the bases.

I didn't have any problems with the upgrade, but my install is pretty small (1 commserver and about 35 clients w/ 3 media agents).

One thing you should do for sure, is use their database checker feature on their website. You basically upload your DB and it checks to make sure everything is cool.

2 things I would notate, one if for some reason you have any index cache on the Commcell itself make sure to move it someplave else, the upgrade will magically delete it :) The only other problem I noticed is that you need to make sure you upgrade the Exchange agents to 7.0 as well or they will kill the services on the media agent during backups. My configuration consists of over 300 clients so I had to do mine in stages, I learned about the exchange issues after I upgraded the comcell and the media agents. As long as you upgrade exchange you will not have any issues.

Have you had to restore from tapes prior to the update and did everything go alright?
