Hi
I currently have a 2MB BT Broadband connection. I have today purchased a NETGEAR bundle, including a DG834G Wirelss ADSL Firewall Router, A wireless laptop card and a wireless PCI card for my desktop.
After following all the instructions, I appear to have a connection between BOTH laptop and desktop to the router, with a strong signal to both, but try as I may I can't get onto the internet. Each time I try to open Internet Explorer, I'm presented with my old connection box, trying to get me to connect through the old USB modem (Which is now unplugged). I can't seem to get connected to the net with the new NETGEAR router ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

check the default connection and remove old connection, in tools, internet options, connections tab, in the box there ensure ure new connection is default....

hope this helps

Well. At the moment I am connected through the router. Don't ask me how !!!
What I did was uninstall ALL my ISP software, and uninstall all the OLD modem software and deleted all existing connections.

In the NETGEAR literature, one of the final instructions was to "Log In" to the router from the PC, by typing in a http:// address into IE. I had tried a number of times but this time it went through. Then I was asked to give my ISP log in name and password, which I did, then I found I was connected.

Should that be it ? I didn't have to enter any other BT details, just my username and password ????

What I'm getting at is, I'm not connected to another server or something.... am I ?

Cheers

yes thats it, it will auto detect the rest or BT!!!

Cheers for that.

To say I've installed a Netgear DG834G v2 router with PCI card and laptop cards, AND managed to get both on the internet at the same time, must be considered as something of a miracle by my standards !!

Now, the question is, when I open the Wireless Assistant box, I see the security options - WPA-PSK , WEP , & Disabled. Mine is currantly set to disabled. Now, forgive me if I'm wrong, but after a bit of research, I thonk that I should have the WPA-PSK setting enabled.

PLEASE, can someone tell me what I have to do IN SIMPLE TERMS exactly what I should do on both my desktop and laptop, which are sharing the internet connection ?

I do have Norton Internet Security installed on both machines, but something tells me that is irrelevant ??

Thanks in advance

yes again.. your right there you need to set up your wep/wpa ill have a look later at your model ut if you follow your instructions it should be straight forward... then the settings must be set on the laptop to allow connection to the laptop..they might be a converter program within so all you have to do is put a phrase in which coverts to the code to be set...

Great guy. THanks a lot for that. I've followed the instructions and I have set all devices up with WPA.

Sorted !

(Now, all I need to do is figure out how I can access the contents of my desktop from my laptop, if it is actually possible ?)

Thanks again

lol,,,yes again, you need to go into networking and set up a new home connection the wizard in xp will do the rest for u again follow the instructions.......

So I go CONTROL PANEL/ and then I have either NETWORK CONNECTIONS or NETWORK SETUP WIZARD.

If I do any of this, it won't affect the setup to the internet that I have already got will it ???

Cheers
