Anyone using Synthetic backups?

I'm testing synthetic backups for a remote office and wondered if anyone here is currently using them. The admin guide is a little sparse on implemintation and if anyone has any advice/comments I would appreciate it. I'm working with Veritas (symantec) support to hash out our roadmap but would prefer some feedback on real world issues if you have seen them. Thanks for the help.
