Hi - Trying to find out what people's experience is with WebFocus and if they thought it was worth the cost.

Hi there! I have founed WebFOCUS to be the easiest and most powerful web based reporting tool on the market.

Great reporting tool especially if building a web self service application or are developing a Managed Reporting Environment in which you which to control what users have access to.

We're migrating from Crystal Reports, SAS/FOCUS on Mainframe, and alot of MS Access reports. So far we have not uncovered anything WF can not handle.

You do not need to limit yourself to just FOCUS language either. We are using some SQL and the Dialog Manager Within the FOC EXECs. You will need some HTML, JavaScript and other web languages if developing web applications.

WebFocus is very good as a database handling and reporting tool. Ecspecially its interface with IBM Mainframes is a boon. [sig][/sig]

BMUNICORN,
We have used Focus very successfully in a client server environment.
We are currently converting the application into a Web Application using
Web Focus, ASP, HTML, VB Scripting because we want to eliminate the deployment to 300 or so users located across the U.S. So far our existing files are converting
relatively easy - minimum code changes. We do miss, however, the Report Viewer format that was available with desk top focus and is not available with Web Focus. Web Focus uses Adobe Acrobate (internet standard) to display reports. We have enhanced our reports module to allow users to select either .PDF (adobe) or .XLS (Excel) format and then we use a onpchold as excel command. This works for
creating a simple excel output. Our previous platform was MS Access for the reports which we were less than happy with.

WebFOCUS certainly has delivered for a lot of customers! I did a project that was handled quickly and effectively. The users are very pleased. The flexibility with the platform is great too.

I'm a programmer familiar with creating reports in Access and Crystal 7. What's the learning curve like for WebFocus?
