Anyone used Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper Offline Virus Scanner?

I just read about it in the above linked article for the first time (that I can remember). Either that or I just forgot about it.

According to the article, it uses the same virus definitions as Microsoft Security Essentials which sounds interesting for sure.

Any experience with this one?

I can't find any online reviews of people that have used this yet. I wonder if it's half-baked or 2/3 baked vs. being a useful tool. It almost makes me want to catch a virus so I can test it (almost).

I would have/should have tried this the other day when I saw some evil malware - zero access rootkit.

I tried it, but never got around to posting back here. I think it was within a week or two, when someone brought me their sick laptop. Best I recall, it seemed to somewhat fix the items, but the problem was the thing kept blue screening, so I could never see the end results to be sure. [banghead]

Oh, the blue screens came up while running this bootable CD, not while within Windows as was installed on the hard drive.

It was VERY easy to use, I'll say that much.

Hey if a program doesn't blue screen how can you be sure its a genuine microsoft product?

Mundus vult decipi decipiatur ergo.

Zing. Well, I'll you that if I need to scan for malware and it's taking 45 minutes to an hour to finish and it blue screens BEFORE it finishes, I start throwing stuff around the room.

That would be an utter time waster if that happened. Of course, it may be an isolated incident or due to kjv1611's utter incompetence (wink, wink).
