I'm curious if anyone here uses a 3Com VCX and what your thoughts are. I've worked on an NBX v3000 and VCX (I think it was a V7000) and wanted to see if anyone actually uses the VCX...
Ive worked with the NBX for quite some time and recently installed a VCX IPMessaging system with an NBX in SIP Mode. Im not very impressed. The documentation available is practically non-existent as is the case with support. Oh did I mention its Linux based? They say you have to be certified to sell it but somehow my salesguy got it through so I had to figure it out.
I was on my way to VCX training next month and we canceled it due to our opinion that Asterisk is developing faster. So now Im on my way to Asterisk training from Digium.
My experience was not so positive either. Its rather cumbersome and not at all stable. We were rebooting hung servers once a week. Our exchange server was more stable than that!
The NBX is much easier to use and my opinion is that if you need something larger than an NBX, go with Nortel. The new CS1000 is doing SIP based trunking and they are getting away from H.323.
I've never worked with the large Avaya solutions though...
I just finished an install of a v3001r, a v3000 and IP messaging centralized at the v3001r site. The documentation is out there and if you follow it, everything is fairly straight forward. You need to know linux which is a pain but overall I was happy with the documentation provided.
