7.0(1) needs 16MB Flash and 64MB RAM according to Cisco. My 515E is fitted with 16MB Flash, but only 32MB RAM.

515 needs 64 MB for a restricted license, and 128Mb for an unrestricted.

I have inherited a unit of 515E and also looking to upgrade to version 7.0. My 515E currently has 64MB RAM. I am not sure i am running on 1x64MB RAM or 2x32MB RAM, would need to unmount the unit from rack and take out the cover to find it out.

Giving the fact that 515E board has two memory banks, I pressume to only to run version 7.0 is to have 2x64MB RAM.

1. Am I right for the above understanding ?
2. How can I find out whether I m using 1x64MB or 2x32MB without physically inspect the unit ?

Any help would be appreciated....

Use the show version command and look at the line starting with Hardware. It should read something like:

Hardware: PIX-515E, 64 MB RAM, CPU Pentium
Flash (....), 16MB

he was asking how to find out if his RAM physically was two units, or just one.. 1x64 or 2x32.

They only one to find that out khaiyang, as far as I've ever known on Cisco devices, was to open it up and look.

there is no 64MB Cisco memory that I could find.
the two part numbers

PIX-515-MEM-32=
PIX-515-MEM-128=

There is no PIX-515-MEM-64

everone with 64MB RAM should have 2 32MB chips.
toss them away and buy a 128MB Chip.

There's gonna be a run on them 128MB chips.
I hope there is a good supply.

~$170 That I could find.

I´ve ordered 4 sets of PIX-515-MEM-128= today, USD $165 each. Looking forward to the test the new software! :)

Good guess! ;)

Actually I´ve got 11 PIX´s, but only 4 515E´s.

Does anyone know if 506E ever will be supported by v7 or is Cisco going to release any new hardware soon?

Word was, that later releases would add support for 506e and 501, but not for 520.

thanks for the info. especially David902 for posting the item code as well.

Will proceed with purchasing the memory first and then do the upgrade.

Just a extra note (sorry for off topic), i heard they will skip VMS 2.4 and straight jump to 2.5.
