Our mail server (currently on 4.2.1) needs to have modified its sendmail.cf configuration to allow the sending of mail to the outside world. Currently when we try it gets reject because of RELAYING DENIED.

I know this is NOT a sendmail forum (I'm posting there next) but AIX is a little different and if there's any readers familiar with this I would appreciate any comments.

Thanks.

hi ,

look iam not a AIX user but a linux user.
When sendmail says realying denied it means u need to edit the file /etc/mail/access . Atleast this is the file that controls relaying in linux.

Hope it works for you. if it does let me know.

Regards,
Xanthium.

Perhaps the mailserver does not allow connections?

To verify that a remote system is accepting smtp messages:
telnet [remote host] 25

If you get a "connection refused", then the remote system isn't accepting
smtp messages.

sendmail -v -q
mail -v user@hostname.com

To determine the version of sendmail running on the system:
telnet localhost 25
You should see something like this:

Connected to loopback.
Escape character is '^]'.

OK, the "relaying denied" could be caused by a few things.

If you are trying to send to elsewhere and you are getting bounces back stating "relaying denied" it may be that you are not connecting to the correct target mail server. Is your DNS set up correctly, i.e. is it doing a correct nslookup on the domain name?

Another reason could be that the email address you are trying to send to is a virtual domain on the target mail server, and the target mail server isn't configured correctly.

Anther possibility is that you may not have a valid MX record entry, and the target server is set up to reject mail coming from a server it cannot verify being authentic.

Hope that helps you along a bit. IBM Certified Specialist - MQSeries
